In April 2012, Sheena Bora, a promising young executive with Mumbai Metro One, disappeared without a trace. For over three years, the case remained hidden from the public eye—until 2015, when an anonymous tip led Mumbai Police to unearth what would become one of India’s most bizarre and tangled murder mysteries.
Sheena was allegedly murdered by her mother, Indrani Mukerjea, a high-profile media executive and wife of former INX Media CEO Peter Mukerjea. Initially, Indrani had claimed that Sheena was merely her sister. However, as the investigation unfolded, it was revealed that Sheena was in fact her daughter from a previous relationship—an explosive secret that shocked the nation.
According to the prosecution, Indrani conspired with her driver and ex-husband, Sanjeev Khanna, to murder Sheena over personal and financial disputes, including Sheena’s relationship with Indrani’s stepson, Rahul Mukerjea. The body was allegedly strangled, burned, and dumped in a forest in Raigad.
Despite confessions, retracted statements, and forensic evidence linking the accused to the crime, the case remains unsolved in the legal sense.
