In 2006, Uttar Pradesh Police officer Netra Pal Singh mysteriously vanished while escorting a prisoner named Vijay Singh, a dreaded gangster, from Faizabad to Ghaziabad. What initially seemed like a procedural transfer turned into a baffling missing persons case—one that still lacks a clear explanation and resolution.
On the day of the incident, Netra Pal Singh left Faizabad with the undertrial prisoner in a police vehicle. Somewhere along the journey, the vehicle reportedly broke down near Sitapur. According to official records, Singh allegedly stopped a private vehicle for help and then disappeared without a trace. The prisoner, however, was found and returned to custody—unharmed and offering little clarity on Singh’s fate.
What followed was a chain of contradictory statements, uncooperative local police stations, and no substantial forensic evidence. Despite being a serving officer, Singh’s disappearance did not lead to an immediate or thorough investigation. Over time, rumors began to circulate—some suggesting he had been abducted or killed by a criminal gang, others speculating he may have gone underground willingly.
The lack of a body, no ransom demands, and zero credible sightings left investigators baffled. His family continuously lobbied for a proper inquiry, and questions were raised in the state assembly, but no breakthrough ever occurred.
