Savoy Hotel – Mussoorie
The Savoy Hotel in Mussoorie is a stunning example of colonial architecture—and a chilling tale of lingering spirits. Built in 1902, it became infamous after the mysterious death of Lady Garnet Orme, a British spiritualist.
She was found dead in her room, with the cause never conclusively determined. Her death became the inspiration for Agatha Christie’s novel The Mysterious Affair at Styles.
Since then, the hotel has been plagued by ghost stories. Guests and staff report strange sounds—doors creaking open on their own, whispers in empty hallways, and eerie piano music at night. The most repeated sighting is of a woman in a grey gown wandering the corridors, believed to be Lady Orme herself.
Some guests have woken up to find their furniture rearranged or lights flickering. A few even report cold spots or the feeling of being watched. Despite renovations and modernization, these incidents persist, leading some to believe that the spirit has not found peace.
Even today, Room 309, where Lady Orme allegedly died, is the center of most ghostly activity. The Savoy remains operational and luxurious—but carries a legacy of mystery that refuses to fade.
