The Eerie End of Ed Warren: Haunted Until the Final Days
Ed Warren, co-founder of the New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR), was one of the most recognized demonologists of the 20th century, alongside his wife Lorraine. The duo investigated some of the world’s most infamous hauntings—including Amityville, Annabelle, and the Perron family case (inspiring The Conjuring).
In 2001, Ed suffered a massive stroke at home, which left him in a coma for 11 weeks. Though he eventually recovered partially, he never returned to investigating and passed away in 2006 under quiet circumstances. However, several of his associates and even Lorraine claimed that the final years of Ed’s life were plagued by an unrelenting spiritual presence.
According to those close to him, Ed began hearing voices, seeing figures in mirrors, and experiencing intense night terrors before the stroke. Lorraine described his condition as “spiritually battered” and hinted that something they encountered in a prior case may have “latched on” to him.
Some believe the famed “Annabelle doll” or another demonic entity exacted a long-delayed toll on Ed. A few months before his stroke, Ed had overseen a controversial ritual involving a supposed portal in Connecticut, which many believe could have contributed to his decline.
Though his death was not officially mysterious, the eerie prelude to his health deterioration has kept his final days enshrouded in speculative gloom.
