The Train Ride That Changed Everything
Maya never liked trains. They felt too crowded, too noisy, too unpredictable. But that morning, when the cab she booked canceled last minute, she had no choice but to catch the early express to work. The station buzzed with people rushing in every direction. She found a seat by the window, hoping to drown herself in music.
A few minutes later, a young man sat beside her. He carried a worn-out book, its cover barely hanging on. Maya glanced at it—Pride and Prejudice. She smiled.
“You like classics?” she asked.
He looked up, surprised, then smiled back. “They keep me sane on mornings like this.”
Their small talk grew into laughter, and soon into something deeper. They shared stories of childhood dreams, fears of growing older, and the beauty of chasing something uncertain. For the first time, Maya felt a train ride was too short.
When the announcement came for her stop, she hesitated. Should she leave it at this? Or take the leap?
As she stood, the man quickly scribbled something inside his book and handed it to her. “Keep it,” he said.
Later that evening, at home, Maya opened the book. On the last page, in messy handwriting, was his number and a note: “Maybe this is where our chapter begins.”
Maya smiled. Trains no longer felt crowded or noisy. They felt like destiny.
