The Philip Experiment
Conducted in 1972 by a group of Canadian researchers led by Dr. A.R. George Owen, the Philip Experiment aimed to determine whether individuals could create and communicate with a fictional ghost through collective imagination and expectation.
The group fabricated a historical narrative about a non-existent person named Philip Aylesford and attempted to contact him through séance sessions.
Initially, no phenomena were observed.
However, after altering the environment to mimic traditional séance conditions, participants reported experiencing table vibrations, unexplained echoes, and rapping sounds corresponding to questions about Philip’s life.
While some interpreted these occurrences as evidence of psychokinesis or collective unconscious influence, critics argue that the results can be explained by psychological factors such as suggestibility and the ideomotor effect.
