The Ganzfeld Experiment
The Ganzfeld experiment is a technique used to test individuals for extrasensory perception (ESP).
In this setup, a “receiver” is placed in a room with halved ping-pong balls over their eyes, bathed in red light, and subjected to white or pink noise through headphones, inducing a state of mild sensory deprivation.
Concurrently, a “sender” observes a randomly chosen target, such as an image or video, and attempts to mentally transmit this information to the receiver.
The receiver verbalizes any perceptions during the session, which are recorded. Afterward, the receiver is presented with multiple targets and selects the one that most closely matches their experience.
While some studies have reported hit rates above chance levels, critics argue that methodological flaws, such as inadequate randomization and potential sensory leakage, undermine the validity of these findings.
Despite extensive research, the Ganzfeld experiments have not provided conclusive evidence for the existence of ESP.
