The Pyramids

THE MODERN VOGUE of “pyramid power” began in 1970 with the publication of Psychic Discoveries Behind the Iron Curtain, by Sheila Ostrander and Lynn Schroeder. This massive book is the journal of two reporters who traveled throughout Russia and the satellite countries, trying to find out what the communists were doing in parapsychology research.

One chapter, “Pyramid Power and the Riddle of the Razor Blades,” tells of the writers visit to Czechoslovakia, where they were told that the shape of the pyra- mid has the power to generate energy. Indeed, Czech patent 91304, for the “Cheops Pyramid Razor-Blade Sharpener,” was is- sued to Karel Drval in 1959. Drval claimed that dull razor blades become sharp and that food is preserved when placed inside card- board miniature pyramids. Ostrander and Schroeder reported Drval’s claims verbatim, and their book popularized pyramid power.

Today it is possible to purchase pyramids of various sizes and materials either direct from specialty stores or through the mail. One hears of people using them to store everything from tomatoes to razor blades, sleeping in them, meditating in them, and even wearing them.

The ancient Egyptians, obsessed as they were with magical rites and practices, probably would have thought all this silly. All indications are that the shape of the pyramid had no great magical significance to them. It almost seems as if the shape were accidental, or perhaps even an afterthought.

The first pyramid was the “step” pyramid of King Zoser, the founder of the Third Dynasty, and evidently it was not originally intended to be a pyramid. Prior to Zoser, pharaohs and nobility

“You’ve gotta dance like there’s nobody watching, Love like you’ll never be hurt,
Sing like there’s nobody listening, And live like it’s heaven on earth.”― William W. Purkey
