Shaniwarwada Fort – Pune
Built in 1732 as the seat of the Peshwas of the Maratha Empire, Shaniwarwada Fort is known for its grand architecture—and ghostly past.
The most chilling tale associated with the fort is that of Narayanrao, a young Peshwa prince who was brutally murdered on the orders of his own uncle, Raghunathrao, and aunt Anandibai.
The young prince’s last words were “Kaka mala vachva!” (“Uncle, save me!”), which he reportedly screamed while being killed.
To this day, locals claim to hear these very cries echoing through the fort on full moon nights. Many believe the soul of Narayanrao still haunts the place, seeking justice. Visitors often report feelings of being followed, sudden temperature drops, and hearing unexplainable noises, especially after sunset.
Due to its haunted reputation, night visits to the fort are restricted. Paranormal researchers who have visited Shaniwarwada claim it’s one of the strongest energy spots in western India. Though the murder happened centuries ago, the cries of a dying prince still haunt the fort’s shadowy corridors.
